Passion Never Retires for Isabel Arouca

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love everything about my work, the best thing is that I don´t feel I´m working, I am having fun. “Creativity is intelligence having fun”. I love that I can be creative every day and I love the freedom.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Well, that would have to include my children, my friends and a hot summer beach day. The best of all is that I can have all that in a productive working day.

What is my greatest fear? To lose my freedom, my health or my mind.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I worry too much

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? AYALA BAR, for the harmony of her combinations

What is my greatest extravagance? Going on vacation not knowing when I am coming back.

On what occasion would I lie? To protect from a harmful truth, if it´s possible.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? To keep all materials organized, It´s a never ending task.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? When I am creating a new piece of jewelry and I´m so excited with the result that I feel proud of myself. When someone tells me they can´t stop wearing my jewelry all year long.

If I could, what would I change about myself? Learn to accept myself as I am. I think an important part of personal development is accepting who you are and loving all aspects of yourself. Of course there is always room for improvement.

What is my greatest achievement in work? Being able to do what I love and make a career out of it.

Where would I most like to live? I live in Lisbon and I love it, my dream is to have a house in the beach, like the ones in the movies.

What is my most treasured possession? My imagination and my creativity, they make my day better and full.

What is my most marked characteristic? My style, I love it when someone recognizes my latest work without knowing it was mine.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Chiado in Lisbon, where you can see and absorb the most amazing multicultural mix, in a city full of light and beautiful architecture.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? “Estrela da Bica” in Chiado, Lisbon.

What books influenced my life and how? All books from Philippa Gregory, I love the way her books can make me travel in time and space, and make me feel the way of life of queens and princesses, their dresses, their jewelry, all their way of living and thinking.

Who are my favorite writers? Philippa Gregory, Gabriel Garcia Marques, Isabel Allende…

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I would listen to some deep house lounge music and dance.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? “The Little Prince” for his way of making us see more than the obvious.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Real men and women who struggle every day to make a better world, to be good to each other, to respect, to be a good example.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? City of Angels, I saw it the first time I went alone to the movies, and it stayed with me for a long, long time, in a very good way.

What role plays art in my life and work? For me Art is a way of looking at live, a way of being, an attitude, it´s the options you take every day, you find it in the little things and the big ones.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My family and my friends, they are my strength.

Whom would I like to work with in 2018? I would love to work with other crafters and learn how to use new materials; I would love to make bags and shoes.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2018? Big names like Ayala Bar or Michal Negrin.

What project, in 2018, am I looking forward to work on? Design and produce a whole accessory collection for a brand.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I take my work everywhere, which means I can work at the pool or at the beach, at a nice café’s terrace or at a friend’s house. I hope I never retire from being creative.
