Passion Never Retires for Lara Khalaf

What is the best thing that I love about my work? To watch extraordinary cocoons (students and clients) transform into an even more extraordinary butterflies (professionals) ready to fly and take on the world! (by becoming extraordinary and conscious business leaders).

What is my idea of perfect happiness? I believe happiness is not something to be pursued and instead to be understood and felt as a quality that’s already in us. I am happiness. I love one concept that Tony Robbins teaches called the “state of beautiful”; this state is a combination of different qualities such as: innovation, focus, optimism, kindness, empathy, determination, love, positivity, integrity, etc.

What is my greatest fear? One of the closest people in my life suffers from Alzheimers; my greatest fear is the day my mother doesn’t remember I am her daughter anymore… I know the day will come and to be truthful I am not prepared for it yet. Apart from this I fear nothing else.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I don’t deplore anything about myself… There is an area that I have not mastered yet and that’s around physical activity … I know I have not made the commitment nor attached myself emotionally to the decision of truly wanting to be fit. Once I put my mind onto it, it will be achieved.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I have had amazing mentors and leaders who were so generous with their time, patience and wisdom. Rich Litvin, whom I consider to be one of the best coaches in the world, is the person I admire the most in my profession; I haven’t had the pleasure of being coached by him… yet… but I am soon starting one of his programs, and I am thrilled by it!

What is my greatest extravagance? I love designer shoes and handbags!!! An even more extravagant person told me once that these items were investments… so I keep investing in them like crazy hoping one day they will increase in value . Another extravagance is that I only write with montblanc pens; having diva moments from time to time is harmless…am I right?

On what occasion would I lie? I lie almost everyday… one of the things I learned when dealing with Alzheimers disease is that lying is the most beautiful and caring way to show love, kindness and appreciation for the person who suffers it, in order to protect and not aggravate them, as any negative or stressful situations might make the disease progress faster.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I have noticed and personally experienced incongruences and inconsistencies with some people and organizations that claim to support and empower others with a vision that sounds fantastic but is filled with air.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I am at my best when I am involved with my 3 loves… yes I have more than one lover… when I teach I feel alive, when I coach I feel responsible and when I speak I feel useful.

If I could, what would I change about myself? Having a vocation like mine means I need to be a catalyst for change and do my best to lead by example; How can I otherwise expect change in my students and clients if I don’t do it myself? Having said that, there are always areas to improve that you may or not be aware of until given the chance. To answer your question, whatever I wanted to change has or is being changed.

What is my greatest achievement in work? Wow!!! I have had so many… One of my recent big achievements is being a guest speaker on the prestigious TEDx platform considering that when I moved to the UK I only knew a dozen of words in English.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I live in London and I find libraries to be truly inspirational, as I love reading and being surrounded by books. I also love those feminine and chic looking tea places in West London and Covent Garden. “Fait Maison” in Gloucester Road is one of them.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? It has to be Kenza restaurant near Liverpool Street station! It’s a Moroccan/Lebanese restaurant with great atmosphere, food, entertainment and a superb middle eastern ambiance…. You feel as you are entering being part of the one thousand and one nights Arabian story!
What books influenced my life and how? The monk who sold his Ferrari” and “The leader who had no title” both by Robin Sharma. I also had the pleasure of meeting him in person in October 2017; the words and philosophies in his books triggered thoughts and actions that took my life to a completely new direction! Both personally and professionally… For example, I decided to become a professional Coach and quit my corporate leadership life.
Who are my favorite writers? Apart from Robin Sharma, Nayyirah Waheed is a poet and author that I recently got introduced to and all I can say is holly wow! The simplicity yet richness of her thoughts and philosophies are truly inspirational.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I love superman! It was always my favorite superhero since I was a kid… he has handsome, strong and always ready to save the world… a few weeks ago I was introduced to wonderwoman and I liked her so much too… the competition is tough now, I don’t know who to choose!

What role plays art in my life and work? Art, in its many forms (music, fashion, theater, photography, street art, literature, etc.) plays an enormous part in my life and has allowed me to feel, create, dream, learn, relax, be inspired, love, think, work… My flat in London if filled with art.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My parents are my biggest fans! I would love to say one day that my “man” is my partner in crime… until that moment arrives I am happy to wait and call my friend Shane my partner in crime.

Whom would I like to work with in 2018? I would love to teach coaching in the school where I learnt it from! I would also love to write articles on leadership for a Psychology magazine or a Stylist magazine…. Dear Universe… please take a note, I have set my intentions already…

Which people in my profession would I love to meet in 2018? Simon Sinek…. 100% without a doubt, I am very attracted to his brain, life vision, knowledge, teachings, wisdom and I wont hide that I also find him physically attractive!

What project, in 2018, am I looking forward to work on? I cannot wait to launch my three months transformational and practical leadership program called “She Leads” aimed for women in business. This program will help women become extraordinary and confident business leaders. This is the result of the 20 years of international experience I spent in progressive leadership roles and managing large team operations across organizations in the private, corporate and public sectors.

Where can you see me or my work in 2018? All over the world! There are local and international projects being planned, anything that is shareable gets posted on social media.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? These words mean that when you find your purpose and your passion expect it to be the most important relationship you will have for the rest of your life…
